What is the CNO, UKB, EBCI 'FEDERAL Cherokee' the afraid of?

Concerning the articles opening 'Is it' questions - it's ( D ) All The Above.

Mr. Jacobs, if you disagree with 'Their' conclusions - you're ejected from the meeting? At least their consistent, in the past if you disagreed with certain tribal policies the council simply 'rejected' you and your family from the tribe, later they'll call you a 'wannabe'.

“There are a number of issues that need to be addressed with different people in different states who come together and claim to be tribes,” said Dr. Richard Allen,

True, there are certain issues that need to be addressed i.e. fees for enrollment, if the Federal tribes charge an enrollment and/or genealogy research fee before accepting an applicants request for enrollment then possibly the Independent tribes might want to consider this. The reason Mr. Allen mentions 'different people, different states' is simple, OK laws don't fly well here in FL.

“We would like to make impersonation of a tribe, or a tribal citizen, a felony,” said Cara Cowan Watts, Cherokee tribal councilor.

What is she talking about? Have these people ever looked up the definition of the word TRIBE? It's a Roman word describing one of the three divisions of people representing the Latin, Sabine, and Etruscan settlements. Tri - equals three. And did not the Cherokee of Oklahoma dissolve their TRIBE as they signed for the Dawes 'Land Allotments'?

“You can’t just create one. You can’t just make up an Indian tribe, culture or people. You can’t split off from another Indian tribe.”

Again, these folks might be 'Federal real card carrying Cherokee' - BUT they have a lack of Cherokee history. Did not Dragging Canoe and his supporters break away from the 'Mother Tribe' and because the 'split' happened on the Chickamauga Creek, these Cherokee became known as the Chickamauga? Aren't the TX Cherokee a 'break-away'? How about the Old Settlers? And if memory still serves me - wasn't it a practice in ancient times that if a tribe became to large and survival was an issue the tribe would 'split', creating two or more smaller groups, as a way to insure their survival? I swear, these Federal Cherokee are losing their collective minds! Didn't Russell Means recently set up a 'NEW' Lakota Republic'?

The afternoon began with a presentation by the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma on the controversy over whether descendants of Cherokee Freedmen should be considered full Cherokee citizens.

This is the 'REAL' issue, the Freedmen, this council just through the Independent Cherokee and some not-Cherokee groups into the mix in order to cover their prejudices towards the Freedmen. And if the CNO had been successful in their rejecting of the Freedmen they wouldn't be happy, the Freedmen would have every right to establish their own 'tribe' the Freedmen Cherokee. And they would have every right to apply for Federal dollars, which might have to come out of the monies allotted for the CNO. It all about MONEY, cultural is simply a distraction.

Dr. Carol Morrow of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau “There are lots and lots of Cherokee groups in Missouri and Arkansas,” she said. “These are just self-identified groups. Many of them have split from parent groups, gone off and set up their own. Many of the groups from Missouri claim heritage of people who left the Trail of Tears and settled in the area.” Demographics show there is no basis for those claims, she said.

Of course there are 'lots and lots of Cherokee in MO/AR as there are in KY, TN, GA, AL, MS, SC & NC, VA'. Doesn't she realize that the Trail of Tears came through that region, long after the Old Settlers? Isn't that how it's done, we - self identify? What 'demographics' is she talking about? How come she didn't mention the Amonsoquath?

Others claim to be part of the western Cherokees who settled in Arkansas between 1818 and 1828, before the Cherokee removal. “But if you get into the historic documents they are invisible in Missouri,” she said.

Historical documents concerning Cherokee peoples are invisible in Missouri? Say it ain't so! Oh wait, Cherokee weren't allowed to live within the borders of the State, could it be that? Or could it be the fact that in order to keep your farm you had to claim to be an immigrant from Italy? What cereal does one have to purchase to receive a 'Doctorate'?

Well, it may be time to lay the cards on the table. The Independent Cherokee groups, bands or tribes (whatever they self-identify as) need to step forward with their historical documents and put an end to these attacks. What have we to lose? Nothing. What have the Federal Cherokee got to lose? Welfare checks from their Great Father in Washington. I think that is what it boils down to, 'money for nothing, the checks are free'.

Maybe this will be a good thing, if the Independent Cherokee organizations are confident in their historical records and a Confederacy is strong - maybe it's time to enter the battle, and expose to all of Indian Country 'whose who and what's what'. We Independents have much ammo for this court battle, we simply need to be committed and join the Federal Cherokee to bring the truth to light. The WHOLE TRUTH even the fact that the CNO is a Corporation with BIA services.

Well, I've sounded off, hope my words have not brought harm to your hearts, we need to expose the truth and educate these Doctors of American Indian History that they've a lot to learn. We'll need to set up an Independent Cherokee Confederacy Legal Fund with a bank to receive donations, we know we'll be facing federal dollars because that is where the CNO gets it's funding, plus they've got Casino dollars too.

What say you?
